Why I created Car Matcher.
I've been a petrol-head for as long as I can remember. Now in my early 30s and having driven since I was 18, I've owned more than 30 vehicles across almost every category imaginable. Sports cars, track cars, daily drivers, SUVs, pickups, you name it, I've probably owned it at some point. Each ownership experience taught me something different and gave me first-hand insight into the realities of living with different types of vehicles.
Over the years, those experiences have taught me that buying the right car is about far more than specifications, performance figures or badge prestige. I’ve developed a deep understanding of ownership costs, depreciation, desirability and long-term value, but perhaps most importantly, I’ve learnt that the best car isn’t always the newest, fastest, or most expensive. The best car is the one that makes sense for the person driving it.
The only vehicle I've ever truly lost money on was my first car. Looking back, it would have made more sense to replace it than continue repairing it, but I kept it because I was emotionally attached to it. It was my first car, and like many people, I convinced myself it was the right decision. That experience taught me something important very early on…
The wrong car can feel right at first.
Since then, I've approached car ownership differently. Most of the vehicles I've owned have made money or in some cases, broken even. That has not happened by luck. It comes from understanding value, timing, ownership costs, desirability and knowing which cars are genuinely worth putting money into.
That knowledge naturally led friends and family to ask for advice when it came time to buy their own cars. I've helped countless people choose vehicles that genuinely suit their needs, budget and lifestyle. To this day, a 100% success rate is still maintained. That is the sign of a perfect car choice.
A great car does not need to be the newest or most expensive. It needs to make sense for the person driving it and be worth their money in the real world.
As time went on, I started noticing something… Most people don't struggle because there aren't enough cars available. They struggle because there are too many factors to consider. Everyone has an opinion. Friends have opinions. Family have opinions. Reviewers have opinions. Salespeople have opinions. The problem is that most advice isn't tailored to the person receiving it.
Many people walk into a dealership without really knowing what's best for them. They're shown what's available, what's on the forecourt, what's currently being promoted, or what's easiest to sell.
To be clear, there's nothing wrong with dealerships. They serve an important purpose, but their job is to sell cars. Our job is different. Our job is to help you understand which cars actually deserve your consideration before you spend your hard-earned money.
I genuinely believe most people work far too hard for their money to make avoidable mistakes when buying a vehicle, especially when those mistakes only become obvious months or years into ownership.
Buyer's regret is more common than most people think.
The reality is that most people are not making poor decisions intentionally. They are usually trying to make the best decision they can with limited time, conflicting opinions and incomplete guidance. That is exactly where the wrong car can start to look like the right one.
This is why Car Matcher exists.
Car Matcher was created to give people unbiased guidance before they commit thousands of pounds to a vehicle. Not a generic list. Not a quick opinion. Not an AI-generated answer. A clear, expert view of which cars genuinely make sense for their situation.
While Car Matcher was founded on my own experience and passion for helping people make better vehicle decisions, delivering high-quality recommendations within 24 hours requires more than one person. Today, I work alongside a carefully selected team of car experts who share the same philosophy and attention to detail that Car Matcher was built on.
Every Car Match report is created by real experts. AI is not used to create your matches, decide your recommendations, rank your options or write your report. Every recommendation is shaped by human judgement, real-world ownership knowledge and a clear understanding of what makes a car worth buying.
We do not sell cars. We do not earn commission from dealerships or manufacturers. We are not here to push what’s popular, what’s easiest to sell or the latest offers. We are here to help you understand where your money is best spent before you buy.
Whether you're buying your first car, upgrading your current one, looking for something more practical, more reliable, more enjoyable to drive, or simply better value for money, our goal is straightforward: To help you make a confident, informed decision.
One of the biggest misconceptions when buying a car is that you'll immediately know when you're making a bad decision. In reality, many poor purchases don't feel like poor purchases at all. They look the part, drive well, receive positive reviews and seem to tick all the right boxes.
The problem is that some of the most important factors only become clear over time. Excessive depreciation, poor long-term value, hidden compromises, running costs and ownership reality are rarely obvious when you're standing on a forecourt or browsing listings online. By the time they become apparent, the purchase has already been made, and the regret has begun.
That is where experience makes the difference. It allows us to identify poor value, hidden compromises and recognise stronger alternatives before they become expensive lessons.
The truth is, you don't need to know everything about cars. You just need the right guidance before spending thousands on one. This is what Car Matcher provides. unbiased expert judgement, clear recommendations and a personalised Car Match Report designed to show you which cars are genuinely worth your money.
If you're feeling overwhelmed by choice, unsure what represents good value, or want confidence that you're making the right decision, complete the Car Matching Questionnaire and receive a personalised Car Match Report featuring three carefully selected vehicle recommendations tailored to your requirements.
If you want the reassurance of talking things through, you can book an Expert Call to discuss your options, ask questions, and make your final decision with complete confidence. It’s not needed, but the option is there for those who require it.
That's why Car Matcher exists.
Not to sell you a car, but to help you buy the right one.
